Laboratory in situ production of autochthonous and allochthonous fluorescent organic matter by freshwater bacteria

Fox, Bethany G (2021) Laboratory in situ production of autochthonous and allochthonous fluorescent organic matter by freshwater bacteria. UWE https://researchdata.uwe.ac.uk/id/eprint/629/

Brief summary of project

Exploration of environmentally sourced freshwater bacteria using a laboratory model system. Samples and samples fractions were investigated using fluorescence spectroscopy to determine the ability of freshwater bacteria to produce fluorescent organic matter (FOM) in situ.

Data collection method: Bacterial isolates were cultured overnight (24 hours) at 30oC. Sample fractions were obtained via filtration and centrifugation, with some cells being physically lysed via sonication. Bacterial enumeration was also undertaken and data corrected for analysis of FOM per cell.
